Things to Do in Delphi, Greece: A Local’s Complete Guide
In ancient times, Delphi was considered the center of the world. The sanctuary of Apollo became the most important oracle in the ancient Greek world, attracting pilgrims, kings, and generals for over a thousand years. Today, Delphi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most visited archaeological destinations in Greece. But there is much more to do here than just touring the ruins.
1. Explore the Archaeological Site
The Sacred Way winds uphill past the treasuries, leading to the iconic Temple of Apollo, the ancient theatre with 5,000 seats, and the stadium where the Pythian Games were held.
Tip: Arrive at 8:00 AM to beat the tour buses. The site is just a 16-minute walk from our apartments.
2. Visit the Archaeological Museum
One of the most important museums in Greece, housing the famous bronze Charioteer of Delphi, the Sphinx of Naxos, and the gold and ivory head of Apollo.
3. See the Tholos of Athena Pronaia
The circular temple that appears on every postcard of Delphi. Entry is free and the area is often much quieter than the main site.
4. Walk the Ancient Oracle Path
This ancient footpath used by pilgrims winds through olive groves and ancient stone walls. It starts right next to Komody Apartments.
