Athens to Delphi: How to Get There & Why You Should Stay Overnight
Athens to Delphi is one of the most popular routes in mainland Greece. The distance is approximately 180 km, and the drive takes about 2.5 hours via the E75 highway.
Option 1: Driving from Athens to Delphi
Take the E75 highway northwest toward Lamia. After approximately 170 km, exit at Kastro and follow signs to Delphi via Arachova.
- Distance: 180 km from Athens city center
- Drive time: 2 to 2.5 hours
- Tolls: Approximately €10 to €13 each way
- Parking: Free street parking at Komody Apartments
Option 2: Bus from Athens to Delphi (KTEL)
KTEL buses depart from Terminal B (Liosion 260) in Athens. Duration about 3 hours, cost around €16-18 one way. The bus stop is a 5-minute walk from Komody.
Option 3: Guided Day Tour from Athens
Convenient but rushed (only 2-3 hours at the site), large groups, and you miss the best parts of Delphi.
Day Trip vs. Overnight Stay
A day trip gives you a taste. An overnight stay gives you the full experience. You can walk to the site in the cool morning light, take your time at the museum, visit Arachova, and watch the sunset from your balcony.
