Skiing Parnassos, Staying in Delphi: The Smart Winter Combo

Every winter, thousands of skiers head to Mount Parnassos, home to the largest ski resort in Greece. Most stay in the fashionable mountain town of Arachova, where weekend demand pushes accommodation prices to premium levels. But there is a smarter option that experienced visitors know well: stay in Delphi, just 35 km from the slopes, and enjoy better value, more authentic atmosphere, and the bonus of having one of the world’s greatest archaeological sites on your doorstep.

At Komody Apartments, we welcome skiers with heated apartments, secure parking, and complimentary breakfast to fuel your mornings on the mountain. Book your ski holiday with us.

Parnassos Ski Centre at a Glance

The resort sits at an altitude between 1,600 and 2,260 metres on the slopes of Mount Parnassos. It is divided into two main areas: Kellaria, which is the larger and more developed with 13 runs, and Fterolakka, which has 10 runs and tends to be quieter. Total skiable terrain covers approximately 36 km, served by 14 lifts including modern quad chairs.

The season typically runs from December to early April, though snow conditions vary by year. The resort has invested heavily in snowmaking equipment to extend the season when natural snowfall is limited. A daily lift pass costs around 25 to 35 euros depending on the day and season, making it one of the most affordable ski destinations in Europe.

Runs for Every Level

Beginners: Both Kellaria and Fterolakka have gentle nursery slopes with ski school facilities. Equipment rental is available at the resort base, with modern gear from major brands. Lessons are offered in Greek and English.

Intermediate: The majority of runs are red-graded, offering enjoyable cruising with consistent pitch. The Hermes and Apollo runs at Kellaria are popular choices with good grooming and reliable snow cover.

Advanced: Several black runs and off-piste routes challenge experienced skiers. The back bowls behind Fterolakka offer untouched powder after fresh snowfall. Local guides can show you the best freeride lines.

Cross-country: Marked cross-country trails wind through the fir forests between the two resort areas. Snowshoeing routes are also maintained.

Why Stay in Delphi Instead of Arachova

Price: Accommodation in Delphi during ski season costs 30 to 50 percent less than equivalent options in Arachova. Komody Apartments offers fully equipped apartments at a fraction of Arachova’s boutique hotel prices.

Parking: Arachova’s narrow streets become congested on winter weekends, and parking is a genuine problem. Delphi has ample free parking, and our apartments include dedicated parking.

Atmosphere: Arachova has become a weekend playground for Athens, with nightclubs and crowded bars. Delphi retains the character of a mountain village where you can enjoy a quiet dinner, walk the empty streets at night, and wake up refreshed.

Culture: After skiing, you have the option to visit one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. It is a unique combination that no other ski destination can offer. Learn more in our things to do in Delphi guide.

The drive: Delphi to the ski centre is about 35 km (40 minutes). Arachova is closer at 25 km, but the difference is only 10 to 15 minutes of driving. The road from Delphi is well-maintained and scenic, climbing through pine forests with views of the valley below. For more on Delphi and Arachova, see our dedicated guide.

A Typical Ski Day from Delphi

Wake up to breakfast at Komody Apartments. Hit the road by 8:30 to arrive at the resort as lifts open at 9:00. Ski until early afternoon, grab lunch at one of the resort chalets, and ski the afternoon session until 16:00. Drive back to Delphi in time for a hot shower, a walk through town, and dinner at a local taverna. On a rest day, visit the archaeological site, explore the museum, or take a day trip to Arachova for shopping and coffee.

What to Bring

If you have your own ski equipment, bring it for comfort and fit. Rental gear is available but can be limited on busy weekends. Bring warm layers for the drive up (the road can be icy) and snow chains for your car just in case, though the roads are usually ploughed promptly. Sunscreen and good sunglasses are essential at altitude, even on cloudy days. For general seasonal advice, see the best time to visit Delphi.
